Job Description:

The selected Windows Administrator will work independently to support all Windows servers, providing connection services for the entire enterprise. This will include overseeing installation, administration and usage Windows-based servers, maintaining integrity and security of the enterprise’s Windows servers and systems, conducting system analysis and development to keep the systems current with changing technologies and coordinating communication and support between the user community and the technical and operational functions of the IT group as it relates to the server architecture. The network includes multiple facilities supporting global operations. Role will include:

  • Maintain DNS, SMTP, DHCP domain controllers, Active Directory applications, printing, mail, Web servers and FTP services for the enterprise.
  • Diagnose issues with VCB (VMWare’s Consolidated back-up) to get it up and running.
  • Maintain operating systems and applications installed on physical and virtual servers including overseeing performance of server/SAN hardware to identify and resolve problems and enhance performance with measurable benchmarks.
  • Manage and maintain the MS Exchange 2003 enterprise email system
  • Manage Windows security features to protect confidential information while allowing appropriate access.
  • Support users via Help Desk Ticketing system
  • Set up and maintain/monitor network backup/recovery hardware/software on a daily basis.
  • Interface with IT staff to support web-based software efforts and transmits data between client/server systems and outside agencies.
  • Administer technical support for hardware maintenance, repair or replace defective hardware on clients and servers and expedite repairs with outside services.
  • Monitor system logs and activity on all servers.
  • Troubleshoot Windows Active Directory issues in conjunction with IT Help Desk.
  • Researches, installs, and tests software updates and patches to supported systems on a quarterly basis using approved corporate change control procedures.
  • Research new technologies and present recommendations on major hardware and software purchases for the enterprise.
  • Update software and hardware inventory and documents any and all changes to either.
  • Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion.

What is expected:

The selected candidate will have strong Systems Administration experience using current supported Microsoft server/workstation operating systems including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Exchange System Administration and VMWare ESX Server System Administration. He/she will also need a thorough knowledge of and experience with Windows 2003, Microsoft Active Directory, virus protection tools, multiple domain architecture and TCP/IP / DHCP / WINS / DNS. Experience with Symantec Netbackup Backup/Recovery software, managing fiber attached SAN disk systems and with Symantec Enterprise Vault archiving system is desired. Beyond core technical requirements the selected candidate will need to leverage their broad technical capabilities to distinguish between hardware/software-related problems and be available for 24-hour “on-call” to respond to computer system emergencies. This individual will be the main point of contact in the enterprise for all Windows-based systems which will require a strong customer service orientation and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time. He/she will need solid interpersonal, communication and follow-thru skills to work effectively with all groups within the organization. Travel ~4 weeks per year is expected. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology or related field is a big plus.
