Job Description
The Data Analyst is expected to own analysis on medium to large sized business intelligence projects, and to work with solution delivery to write detailed functional specifications translating business requirements in functional constructs. In addition, the analyst is expected to drive definition of data attributes, calculations, metrics and entities by working with solution delivery and development team.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Gather, refine and prioritize requirements from product manager and/or business owners through meetings, questionnaires or interviews
- Assess current business systems and define work items to identify and implement functional requirements that address system gaps/issues
- Translate business requirements into systemic requirements and detailed functional designs for major project application components
- Assist project management with definition of scope and management of application architectural designs
- Maintain deep familiarity with systems development lifecycle
- Work with development and test teams to ensure completeness and feasibility of functional specifications and obtain sign-off
- Ensure business owners and/or end users have understanding of design approach and system functionality to attain business sign-off
- Estimate order of magnitude and help identify resource requirements
- Work with project team members, other internal groups and external vendor groups to troubleshoot and resolve system issues in a timely manner
- Prepare presentations and status reports to communicate application development status
- Organize and lead change management and issue resolution meetings with product management, test and development teams
- Research different approaches to address systems issues, perform cost/benefit/risk analysis on alternatives and communicate results to project stakeholders to facilitate decision making
- Serve as primary point of contact and subject matter expert for large application components during the planning, development and stabilizing periods
- Assist in management of ongoing quality assurance efforts to ensure application delivery meets expectations of end-users per business requirements
- Travel up to 10%

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 3 years of data analyst experience
- 2 years of experience in a professional environment (internships included)
- Bachelor's degree
- 2 years of experience in driving analysis for reports, data warehouse/data marts and cubes
- 2 years of experience in working with business to write detailed and accurate functional specifications (report specifications, data and metrics specifications, persona based use cases)
- 6 months of data modeling experience
Preferred Skills
- Experience in creating logical data models
Professional Skill Requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to successfully facilitate group meetings
- Previous experience in software or business process development
- Solid understanding of software architectures, Microsoft products, software and development lifecycle
- Demonstrated experience with relevant project technology (e.g. SQL, data models, web applications, reporting)
- Technical skills to enable thorough analysis of multiple system components and interfaces
- Sound problem resolution, team building, judgment and decision making skills required
- Ability to manage resources and project schedule, and provide feedback to business
- Ability to operate independently, manage tasks and supervise the work of others
