Description About the role: A Software Test Engineer ensures applications meet GM IT standards for functional, system, quality, security, performance and architecture requirements. The Software Test Engineer drives test planning, execution and quality reporting of software applications through project engagements and sustaining software test activities. This includes the creation of manual and automated test cases and test execution plans. In addition, the Software Test Engineer will perform ambiguity reviews of business and software requirements, execute tests, log defects, and report test metrics and test status to the project teams. This role requires experience in software test strategy, creation of test process deliverables, test metric definition and industry standard report definition. Software Test Engineer works closely with management, architects, business analysts, developers and project managers to assist teams through task management for the successful and on time delivery of projects with highest quality as possible. Major Duties/Responsibilities: The Software Test Engineer applies scientific and practical knowledge to design, build and execute manual and automated tests to evaluate production and customer readiness. This includes providing metrics and measurements to help the project stakeholders and senior management make key decisions on the health of the product. Collaborates with business analysts, project managers, developers, architects and other testers to ensure the overall success of the project. Create and execute manual test cases
Communicate test defects
Participate in defect triage calls, as required, to expedite defect resolution
Capture screen shots, log files, etc
Identify and communicate testing gaps within test team
Compiles and Reports daily test results to Test Project Manager
Trains team members in test best practices
Attends sessions to write test scenarios
Develop Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM)
Desire to work in a fast paced, highly integrated, technology environment
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or IT from an Accredited Institution
  • 3-5 years of software testing and/or software development experience
  • Experience with Database Tools such as SQL and Oracle
  • Ability to clearly communicate with peers, business analysts, and subject matter experts
  • High level of sound logic and analytical ability where problems are unusual and extremely difficult
  • Highly developed oral and written communications skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees and elicit work output
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Telematics/Connected Infotainment
  • Experience in Voice recognition, Mobile and/or Communications testing
  • Experience with TFS or IBM Rational
  • Experience with Software test tools such as load runner, win runner
  • Experience testing in agile
  • Working knowledge of tools like cucumber to support behavior-driven development (BDD).
  • Test Automation implementation experience
  • Experience with Web Services (REST and/or SOAP)
