The Florida Agency for State Technology (AST) seeks to hire talented and dedicated individuals who share our commitment to excellence. The incumbent in this position supports the Main Frame service environment within the Agency for State Technology's State Data Center (SDC). The SDC maintains a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, data center operation providing utility computing services to state agencies and other governmental entities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma and one (1) year of experience in computer systems analysis and or/computer programming.

Background Screening Requirement:

A criminal background investigation, including fingerprinting and statewide and national criminal history records checks, is a condition of employment in this position.


Salary will be based on the State of Florida minimum pay grade for the position. Consideration may also be given to an applicant's relevant knowledge, skills, abilities and available agency funds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a technical worker that supports the software that is run on the IBM Mainframe. This expertise is based on pure technical expertise by acquiring knowledge and skills for new technologies/skills or in-depth knowledge of how the current system operates.

  • Responsible for installing (researching, downloading, configuring, customizing, documenting, maintaining, planning, testing, patching, coordinating and implementing) Mainframe software in a timely manner.
  • Provides quality and professional technical support assistance to internal and external customers of the AST Mainframe services in a timely manner. Participates in the change management and problem management processes.


  • Expert knowledge of the IBM z/OS operating system and other z/OS-based products.
  • Expert ability to use elements of the z/OS operation system, including but not limited to SMP/E, JCL, TSO, ISPF and other utilities.
  • Expert ability to install z/OS and z/OS based system products using written vendor instructions and/or SMP/E.
  • Knowledge of data management, online teleprocessing and networking structures.
  • Ability to write programs in Assembler, COBOL, SAS, MXG and/or C, C++.
  • Ability to research and resolve problems through research and study, as well as vendor support.
  • Knowledge of Windows-based software and its relationship to the Mainframe environment.
